THE FOUNDATION

Through its programs, the Foundation helps German universities to identify and attract pioneering curious minds from around the world. We are convinced that outstanding international academics with groundbreaking ideas and disruptive approaches make a profoundly positive difference, transforming their disciplines and advancing our knowledge and our society. The Foundation supports these exceptional scientists and researchers by equipping them with the time, resources, and freedom they need to expand the frontiers of knowledge.

Wübben Stiftung Wissenschaft has a particular interest in funding academics who pursue innovative research, show a high degree of originality, and venture to explore unconventional and unpredictable territory.

The Foundation was established by Dr. Walter Wübben, who in 2013 already launched the Wübben Stiftung Bildung (previously known as the Wübben Stiftung). While both foundations share the goal of strengthening Germany’s education, science, and research landscape, they are two distinct and independently operating entities.

Tenure Track and Advanced Professorships will be at the core of our funding activities to attract outstanding minds from abroad to Germany by offering them clear-cut career opportunities. All German universities are eligible to apply, provided they offer their candidates long-term perspectives.

Funds for the professorships will be awarded through a competitive, multi-step review and decision-making procedure. External, independent experts will review each application. The Foundation’s international research board will then evaluate the reviews and develop funding recommendations for the Foundation, ensuring every funding decision is based on a sound, fair and transparent review process. There are no quotas for subjects or institutions.
